Chris Pochyla brings over 24 years of diverse legal experience and proven judicial leadership to his candidacy for judge. Currently serving as Associate Magistrate for The Colony, the City of Frisco and the Town of Cross Roads, Chris has demonstrated his ability to manage complex cases with fairness, efficiency, and deep respect for the law.

JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE

Since 2018, Chris has presided over municipal court proceedings in The Colony, handling every phase of the judicial process from arraignment through trial and post-adjudication management. In 2023, he expanded his judicial service to include the City of Frisco, where he continues to demonstrate his commitment to fair and efficient case management, including complex matters involving capias warrants and show cause hearings.  Chris was just selected by the Town of Cross Roads to serve as its associate judge and looks forward to a long partnership with the town employees and service providers.

LEGAL BACKGROUND

Chris earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2001, where he made the Dean's List and served as Chief Counsel in the Criminal Justice Clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University, also graduating with Dean's List honors.

Throughout his career, Chris has maintained a diverse practice encompassing criminal defense, civil litigation, real estate law, probate law, and estate planning. His experience includes representing clients in both state and federal courts, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the legal system from multiple perspectives.

COMMUNITY SERVICE & ADVOCACY

Early in his career, Chris demonstrated his commitment to equal justice by serving as a Staff Attorney with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, where he represented low-income individuals in civil litigation and administrative matters. He also co-hosted the radio show "Law for the People," helping educate the community about legal issues and providing accessible legal information to all residents.  As part of his passion for helping young adults, Chris served as the Attorney Advisor for Richardson High School’s Legal Eagle Mock Trial team from 1999-2006 securing three state titles during that span.  Chris is a Board member for his HOA serving in the hopes of ensuring the community needs are being met while the individual homeowners have a voice to be heard if necessary.  Finally, Chris is the treasurer for the Denton County Defense Lawyers association.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

Chris is admitted to practice before the Texas Bar, the Supreme Court of the United States, multiple federal circuit and district courts, and the United States Tax Court. He is an active member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Texas Bar Association, and both state and local criminal defense associations.

 

As a published legal author and former television commentator, Chris has contributed to legal education through his writings on mortgage law and lending practices, demonstrating his commitment to advancing legal knowledge and professional standards.

Known for his collaborative leadership style and level-headed approach in challenging situations, Chris combines extensive courtroom experience with a deep understanding of community needs. His unique background representing both individual clients and businesses, coupled with his current judicial experience, positions him to serve with both wisdom and practical understanding of how the law affects real people's lives.
